  1. The Hunger Strikers were misguided pawns. They were also terrorists who perpetuated a needless and pointless "war".

  2. Those quotes ar to extreme. I wud say to search De Valeras speech. There ar nice quotes there. Sorry i cnt give examples, but i dnt no wat ur personality is like and wat ur lukin 4.

  3. A small Union Flag would be tasty The Flag of the south of Ireland is a cheap tacky effort of a flag, At least the one they had when they were ruled by Britain looked a lot more classy that was a bottle green flag with a golden harp. kinda like the badge of the RUC. The harp I mean. Try a little harp Tattoo

  4. If you want a quote it would make more sense to quote a peace negotiator because that is the final hurdle in all this.

Also for the recred Podge and Rodge are right if you take it form the factual and not the romantic perspective

  5. i would reccommend getting a small tri colour.

  6. I come from Belfast ukno were the war took place

a good saying is   Erin guh brawk it means Ireland Forever

    also= ah-hir= dad  , the family=on klown

  7. I would not recommend a Bobby Sands tattoo on anyone, they are too extreme and some people you might meet later in life will find them aggressive and hateful, is that the person you want to be seen as? Also, age mellows you, and you learn to see the fuller picture in life, so you never know, just a suggestion but you might live to regret such a visible opinionated tattoo.

If I were to get a tattoo I'd go for something more literary - maybe something by Yeats, Wilde, Joyce, Becket, Bacon, Goldsmith etc etc. the list is endless

What about Robert Emmet, his speech was paraphrased by the American president -Lincoln, so its more about democracy and freedom, and our nation finding its place among the nations of the world etc.

'Let no man write my epitaph: for as no man who knows my motives dare now vindicate them. let not prejudice or ignorance asperse them. Let them and me repose in obscurity and peace, and my tomb remain uninscribed, until other times, and other men, can do justice to my character; when my country takes her place among the nations of the earth, then, and not till then, let my epitaph be written. I have done'.

  8. I think Bobby Sands may be a bit extreme for nowadays. Michael Collins and Patrick Pearse had some good ones. Pearse said in a letter to his mother while awaiting execution in prison after the 1916 rising  "People will say hard things of us now, but we shall be remembered by posterity and blessed by unborn generations."  I think the last bit is lovely. Collins once said, " I want peace and qiuet, I want it so bad I'd die for it."

  10. Here's a few things, simple designs, yet have powerful meanings....

    Triskelion:

A Greek term meaning "three-legged," and thus this sign looks very much like three legs running. The Celtic symbol meaning here is appropriate because this symbol stands for competition and man's progress.

    - Triquetra:

Latin meaning "three-cornered." It's also the symbol for the holy trinity. Being a holy sign, this Celtic symbol is often carved into stone block used in churches.

    Triple Spiral:

Represents the drawing of the three powers of maiden, mother and crone. It is a sign of female power and especially power through transition and growth.

    Five-fold:

This pattern also represents balance. The four outer circles symbolize the four elements: earth, fire, water, air. The middle circle unites all the elements with a goal to reach balance between all four elements or energies.

  11. How about the Irish flag, and IRA writtin on it,and then the quote written above/below the flag??

  12. I think Bobby Sands quotes are a bit heavy-handed, and even worse than the tacky shamrock number .... why don't you get a nice Shiela-na-Gig or something, or a harp?

  13. Yea sure, shamrock tattoos are tacky anyway (sorry if i offend anyone). Make sure that you get it somewhere where you wont regret it.

    (",)

  14. Irish American here - and no, we don't all have shamrocks on the brain...but thanks for askin'.

I understand your motivations, but you are going to have to look at this on your wrist for ages - why not abbreviate it to just..".the laughter of our children .." You know what it means. You don't want a billboard of text on your arm. Plus, it is the positive image - the sought after end result, without the negative revenge in there. Things have changed so much today, after all.

By the way, don't be so harsh on the Irish Americans - where do you think Mr. Collins got his weapons and cash to fight? No interfering Irish Americans = No republic of Ireland.

  15. how about a seanfhocal (irish proverb)?

my fave is "ní mar a shíltear a bhítear"

not everything is as it seems

  16. Mel Gibson from Braveheart

  17. hi you

i like the quotes by bobby sands myself but if it is on your on your wrist it would be to small what about  one of bobby sands there is a place here in cork that does that one

  18. The Bobby Sands ones aren't quite as good as others from people like Wolfe Tone etc - they were better with words than the late Mr Sands. I would also rec. that you'd find a nice seanfhocal on the web if you look.

And don't get it too big - imagine if you fall in love with an Orangeman later in life!!  (Though I doubt it...lol)

  19. I have a quote as a tattoo as well - can you guess what it is?
