Obviously I have to explain my question in more detail. We all know that criminals put millions into Swiss bank accounts. It wouldn't be surprising if some of those are killed during their activities of crime. When the money is not retrieved do the Swiss just use that money for themselves or does the money stay in the accounts forever?

  1. 10 -20 % of illicit money from drugs, weapons, prostitutions, corruptions, murder etc are not used at all, and banks eventually the owner of the money.

Italians do most of the dirty things and Swiss do the clean things - we are enjoying 80% the same money from dark business unpublished, no record and Swiss take 20% commission for keeping it.

  2. Swiss banks do get the use of money deposited for quite a long time in some cases, like in your question, and this is a good deal for them.  However, if your question is whether this is the primary reason the Swiss are rich, then no.  The Swiss are rich because of a long tradition of understanding banking and finance and the business world, and because they do not have oppressive taxes and because their government traditionally recognizes that business is the financial foundation of the country.
