people say you should not mix religion and politics as religion contaminates your ability to think. If this is the case should all politicians have to be non religious so it is them thinking and not the religion doing it for them ?

  1. This is naive - NOT believing in God is in itself a form of cynical belief system to sustain the person's psyche; in fact exactly how religions do !!

  2. They should not mix religion and politics under any circumstances.but they already are. many of our rights have been taken away due to religious opinions

  3. As much as I'd like for more politicians to be atheists, I don't see any high ranking officials being "open" atheists in the near future. A random sampling of U.S. households were polled about various minority groups and atheists placed dead last behind Muslims, immigrants, Jews, blacks, Catholics, evangelists and g**s. Yes, in the U.S. Atheists are the least trusted minority.

Right now, the highest ranking official in the U.S. government who is openly an atheist is in the California state assembly, so it's not even a federal legislative position, let alone head of state. I'm sure there are higher ranking atheists in office in one or two European countries, but I don't know whom or where. Perhaps someone who answers after me can enlighten us.

I would certainly not want to ban religious people from holding office. For now, I would settle for people who use religion to form their own personal moral code rather than using religion to make laws. That's been rare around here for the past 8 years.

  4. I think politics needs to stay out of religion more than religion needs to stay out of politics.  It is so dumb that a Christian can't take there Bible to school but a Muslim kid can role his rug out a pray.  Liberals are very racist against only other Americans!

  5. Who are the "people" who say this?  I suspect that they might be atheists with an ulterior motive.

The system of laws and governance we have in the UK is built upon a Christian model.  In the past 30 years, this has been gradually eroded as Christianity has lost its appeal and greed has become the state religion.  The results are all around us: knives, guns, children brought up without fathers, abortion, road rage and a refusal to help the misery of others.  If atheism can offer an alternative system of morality and respect for human life, it's time you spoke up.

  6. politicians only claim to be 'religious' just to get votes anyway

  7. I think you'll find most politicians only claim to be 'religious' just to get votes anyway

  8. I do not think religion corrupts the mind. I think man corrupts religion. I do no think that religion leads politicians to do bad things, I think politicians do bad things and claim to do them in the name of their religion so that people will be more accepting of the illegal and immoral actions.

Religion in of itself as a vehicle to bring peace to the soul and understanding of the world around us. Religion in its purest philosophies is harmless. It is not until man drives this vehicle to meet his needs that it because corrupt.

  9. As long as politicians don't use religion to justify taking liberty away from citizens then I don't have a problem with who or what they worship.

  10. While I am not religious; I believe that people have the right to be whatever they want. Yes, life would be different if ALL politicians were athiest. However, this will NEVER happen, so everyone will just have to be TOLERANT of the views of others.
