  1. All natural or not, I wouldn't want my critters nibbling on it.

If you can smell the hamster's urine strongly, consider changing the bedding you're using. Despite a lot of people giving thumbs up to Carefresh, I was not impressed by it, and quickly switched off of it.

I use Yesterday's News in my rat cages, because it's excellent when it comes to odor control.

  2. I would not recommend that bedding product for your hamster. Mineral licks and bedding has salt in it, which is not good for your hamster, or any rodent in general. Too much salt will mess with their digestive system, they will not be able to eat, and then eventually pass away. That is not what you want.

Before you make this mistake, please choose another bedding. As you said that CareFresh has not helped you, you might want to choose Kaytee. I recommend that brand for food, bedding, and any other supplies they offer for pets. Kaytee is a very reliable brand.

Here is a link of the bedding from Kaytee's brand.

You can get Kaytee's bedding brand in any color they offer, as they offer several pretty colors for bedding. It is a fairly absorbent bedding, so you should not smell the urine too much. This bedding might not be as comfortable for your hamster, but your hamster will not have the desire to chew and eat this bedding, like the mineral bedding.

Please, change the bedding the next time you clean your hamster's cage. This will pretty much extend the life of your hamster, most likely.

  3. I recommend CareFresh and I know you said not to tell you about it, but I use it and it works very well for both of my female hamster urine odor problems.  How often do you clean your hamsters cage and change the bedding?  That might be why you have a problem with urine odor...not cleaning it often enough.  I clean mine every 3 or 4 days.

I wouldnt recommend the product you are asking about because your poor little hamster might nibble on it and while it may be "all natural" it contains alot of sodium which isnt good for your sweet little girl.

  4. No, it's not good, and I'll explain to you why right now. Most mineral bedding and licks include high amounts of sodium, which can be very bad for your hamster, or any other rodent.

I would recommend that you switch over to CareFresh bedding, which is an absorbent bedding which is also very comfortable for your hamster. There is also one that smells like lavender, if you're looking for good scent!

  5. I don't think I would risk using it.  Have you tried litter box training your hamster?  They are easily trained as they like to urinate  in the same corner of their cage all the time.  They sell little hamster litter boxes at most pet stores, and once you have your hamster litter trained you can easily empty the tiny litter box often, and that should take care of the smell.

  6. That product is not a good idea.  You're better off getting a better absorbent litter.  CareFresh is highly recommended as well as Yesterday's News.

Another problem might be that your cage is too small for your hamster which is causing the odor.  How often are you cleaning it out?  Are you scrubbing the cage down as well as replacing the litter?  The smell also can be cut down if you do some spot cleaning in the morning when you feed her.  If you see wet litter or poops, you can clean some of it up and then do a complete litter change and clean of the cage every weekend (or whenever is convenient).

You can also check out this site for more litter ideas:

It is also possible to litter train hamsters which will make clean up even easier.  Check out this site for more help:

    Hope that helps!

  7. Why don't you try switching to Yesterday's News, and at PetSmart they have something you can put into a small animal's water and it is supposed to decrease their smell. It does work although it takes about a week. I used to use it for my male rabbit, who's urine really stunk.  It's called Bi-odor, in a small yellow squirt bottle.
