People that drink diet soda

Question

with aspartame ...im just wondering how much/often you drink it..and how long youve been drinking it for..and if you had any side effects because of all that talk about it being poisonous. i want to hear what real people who drink it are saying about it. dont give me a lecture of how bad it is, im aware thanks.

I use to drink 6 cans a day for 1 month straight. My side effects were drowsiness and excessive hunger.

I am a type 1 diabetic (for 23 years) and I've drank my fair share of diet pop (in my teens it was nothing for me to drink @160 oz.a day) I no longer do this though but I'm still around.This has nothing to do with aspartame but I see a kidney specialist (just a precautionary measure because of being diabetic so long) and he told me that the caffeine in pop is VERY hard on your kidneys,and to drink either water or caffeine free pop.I think that the caffeine is worse for you than the aspartame,truthfully.So this is for all of you diabetics out there,I know too because my mom was a type 1 diabetic also and died from kidney failure.It's not pretty.

It's not poisonous and it doesn't make you fat.

Well, let's see.  I've been drinking it since it came out in like, 1981?  I was so happy because it is so much better tasting that the saccharine kind.  I drink way, way too much of it.  Like 8 cans or more per day, every single day.  Well, I guess more than that because I switch to caffeine free stuff in the evening, either diet cherry 7up or sugar free Kool Aid.  I like Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi because it has an added sweetener called Ace K that really gives it a sugar-like tast. I know it's terrible.  But hey, I'm 40+ years old, have two great kids, been married for 20+ years and I walk 3 miles a day.  I went back to school in my mid-30's to finish my bachelors and started teaching.  Lord willing, I'll graduate with a master's next year.  So far all of my numbers (lab counts) have been good, and I watch them because my mom and her sisters and their mother all had diabetes...

Sugar and other simple carbohydrates are believed to be the reason that there is an obesity epidemic in the US and other developed western nations.  We know for a fact that sugar instantly raises one's blood sugar, that's why many type I diabetics carry a soda around in case of a deadly "low".  

I'm not saying that it's better than water, but I do not like water (except when I'm outside gardening in the Texas heat, or exercising heavily) and I just won't drink on it all day.  That is obviously best of all possible worlds, but I prefer my one big vice, and that is diet Pepsi.
