i really cant decide on a cage, but these are my choices

1. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752705

i like how this one is a starter but i didn't like how small it is since I'm going to get a syrian hamster but i thought maybe i could use it until he grows out of it?

2. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3076905

i just find this one cute and a bit bigger

3. http://www.petsmart.com/product/zoom/index.jsp?productId=3057122

3rd one is a lot bigger, but do you think i should just get a small one since my hamster will be a baby or will he be fine with a big cage to start with?...i didn't chose the plastic cages with the tubes (critters) b.c i feel like hamster wont breath as good plus it looks like its hard to clean...I'm going to of course add accessorize to any cage i get though, i just want the hamster to be happy

  1. 1. You're right about it being small. All Living Things brand is known for making cages too small for what they're claimed to be for. I wouldn't waste  money on that. (15.5"L x 10"W x 13"H)

    2. If you look at the dimensions, it's about the same size as cage #1. (16" L x 9 " W x 15" H.)

    3. Only downside to this cage, is the wire flooring on the levels. It would be best to find a cage with plastic levels/ramps. Plus, the base of the cage is very shallow, so most of your hamster's bedding, will be pushed/thrown outside of the cage with little effort.

My Syrian hamster was actually in a bird cage that I converted into a hamster home. :)

EDIT: Actually, the Habitat Defined link shows the wrong cage. That is actually the one for Rabbits. The website screwed it up and put the pictures under the wrong listings. This is the actual ''Super Pet Habitat Defined Home for Rats":

  2. We had a great cage for our gerbils that would work for a hamster. I can't find a pic of it.  The base was a 10 gal fist tank and the top was a wire cage, 2 levels.  It was great because all the bedding was in the bottom and the wheel and food was in the top part, so the mess stayed in the cage.  You could put a lot of bedding in because it never made a mess.

  3. I own 1 and 3 - one of my Syrians is currently in 3, and she loves it. She has hammocks all over, lots of room to run - its awesome - I got mine for $49.99 at PetSmart - #1 is great but they outgrow it - #2 has far too much plastic IMHO - 3 is great because its easy to clean, don't have to worry about plastic - oh and don't get critter tubes, Syrians outgrow them
