border, or a chair rail, inbetween the two colors of paint. While I was putting the tape around the trim, I realized I don't think I am going to be able to use wood for the trim because one of the corners in the hall is rounded and not an angle. Do you have any other ideas or should I just go with a paper border?

  1. just becasue it round doesnt mean  you can use wood ...

soak it in the bath tub  warm water , to make it bend  to the shape you need  ....

use wood that will look cool

stain it first ..... and measure twice  cut once ....

hire a nail gun  it will hand you wood faster cleaner, and less hassle  .....

  2. If your trim is made of thin wood, and has not been finished, you can probably soak it in water and slowly bend it to fit.  I would be a good idea to research wood bending on the internet but it can be done.  Often wood is bent using water treatment to make ribs for boats.

  3. If you mean what I think you mean--your trim isn't installed yet. You don't say whether this is an inside corner or an outside corner. I would go to a place that specializes in mouldings, and see if they have anything made to go on or in a corner. It doesn't have to match the rest of the trim but could look pretty cool, a kind of accent piece.

Also, if this is an outside corner, and you'll be painting the trim, you could install it to make a corner, sand off the outer corner so it's rounded, fill the gap where the wall is round behind the trim, and paint the filler the same colour as the trim. Done right, no one will ever know what you did and it will look nice and neat.

  4. Another suggestion in place of wood trim would be to get a decorative stencil from the craft store and paint a border.

  5. Personally, I would never use a paper border at chair rail height.  Especially in a hallway.  They do not hold up to traffic well.

As for the wood, how is the other trim installed?  Perhaps this could give you some ideas.

Bending the wood may be an option if you are talking about a gentle curve with a large radius, but I don't think you will have much luck if the bend is short.  You mention a rounded corner, this sounds like it is probably fairly tight.  Wood will bend when wet, but probably not that much.

What you really need is a piece of flexible polyurethane moulding to match the profile of your chair rail.  Check with the place you bought (or will buy) your chair rail and see if they have some to match or if they can get it for you.  If not, you can order directly from some manufacturers.  I have used Ultra-Flex before (http://www.ultraflexmoulding.com/) with good results.
