People that know the Amsterdam area well?

Question

Are there any good restaurants or cafes or coffeeshops near the Tulip Inn West Amsterdam? On the map nearby it I see the place names "Osdorp" and the "Sloterpark".

Also, how safe is this area?

Personally I don't know the area very well other than dropping off/picking a business colleague occasionally.  The location of the hotel is quite far out from the centre (as you know).  

What to say about the area - well it's "ok" - but nothing special.  It's certainly not the nicest area of Amsterdam regarding going out or socialising.  I personally won't walk around the streets after midnight either.  However the colleague enjoys living there and says that for the prices you get decent (space vs rent) accomodation.

It's certainly not a scenic area.  Building are a little unkempt (being polite) and I would be wary of leaving a car parked

Apart from that though, I don't really know it well, so hopefully someone who lives in the area or knows it better can give more details
