  1. There are some weird spellings that are okay, I agree Ayvah is Really weird and so is Graycee. But Alivia is okay. Avalon is a pretty weird name though.....

  2. I am going to name my daughter Madelyn because my whole family and my boyfriend's family could not spell "Madeleine."

I had family members misspell her name and mispronounce it. If my family is having this much trouble, I thought of all the people in school who would confuse her name with Madeline, so I just began spelling it Madelyn to make it easier.

As for Alivia, I think it is much prettier than Olivia and if I used that name, I would not use it for "unique" reasoning.

But, I really don't like when people name their kids something really tacky and made-up. There are some really cute made up names, but when they sound and look made up it is just lame!

  3. I hate stupid spellings, that drives me nuts too.  I can't understand why people believe spelling a name stupid makes it unique, its still prounced the same and thus common.  Its really stupid.  I do love offset names though, things you don't hear or even some that were made up, such as a combination of the parents names.

  4. The other day someone posted a question about which name people like best...one of the names read Kaytlynne (Caitlin).  That mad me angry!!  I hate Nevaeh!!  I'm sick of boys names used for girls - I was considering Cameron, Cody, Blake and Jordan for boys - until I realised they are so common for girls!!  Soon we'll have little girls running around with the name John or William or Maxwell or Adam!!!!!  We probably already do!  I also can't understand why one would call a child Princess or Beach or Road or something!!

  5. since it is so common it really isnt unique any more is it???

    just tacky,lame,pretentious and dumb!!!!

keep it real and keep it simple!!

james frank william ryan harry henry anthony john or all boys names --- only-- no matter how you try to misspell them, geez no wonder todays kids dont know how to read or write ,their parents cannot even properly spell their names!!!!

cher susan kaitlyn sharon rose lynn marie rhonda tricia are all girls names only!!! save the unique misspelled names for your pets  it really will not ruin their lives but it has a mighty impact on a childs life!!!! good luck!!!!!

  6. I agree, my girls names are Milana, Scarlett & Avalon.

I think they are unique without being "Meilannah, Scarlette & Ayvahlonn".

    My names Olivia :)

  7. I agree. Bad spellings is just annoying and it does not make the name less common. If people don't want a common name they don't have to. People don't understand that there are normal names that are not common anymore.

  8. I completely agree.

I'm a third-grade teacher, so I see the latest trends, and I think it's ridiculous what parents are doing to their children. I prefer classic names myself, so I honestly wince when I see butcherings of them.

For example, last year I had a child named Jaymess in my class, and when I first saw my roster, I had no idea how to spell it. Later, I found that it was pronounced the same as James, and I wondered why on earth his parents would have spelled it like that- I'm sure it'll cause him difficulty in life later on. Same with a girl named Amy I once had- her name was spelt Aymie- again completely unnecessary.

I think it's a way that parents feel they're giving their child uniqueness- perhaps spelling their name differently will make the child more memorable. That way, little Amy won't just be another little Amy, she'll be Aymie with a -y. It's misguided, certainly, but I suppose done in good faith. They just don't realize that it causes more difficulty later.

  9. Finally! Someone who values proper names!

I'm so sick of all the Shanias, and Brandiiis, and Peytons, and Jamess for a girl!!

I can't understand why people would want to inflict something so horrible on a child, that they will have to go roud with for the rest of their lives! Escpecially naming them a nickname, like Charlie, or Alfie, or Gracie. What if he/she wants to become a lawyer or MP?

  10. Seriously, if you don't like it then don't name your child that. Use classic and  "normal" names. Some people find it hard to pronounce or spell certain names so the names are spelled differently. A lot of these names are obviously the parents just sounding out the name and spelling it the way it is spelled out. Dude, Jaymess. Just pronounce it James or ask the student. A lot of teachers say, "I'm sorry but I'm not too sure how to pronounce your name so could you please tell me or correct me if I mispronounce it?" It is as easy as that. A lot of these kids won't get teased when they're older because their name will sound "normal". If parents are trying to make their children's names unique by changing the spelling then let them. Sure it can annoy you, but you don't know these kids unless they're children of people you know or teach or whatever. Every kid is unique but some parents like to take the extra step. No one is asking you to agree with them but respect their children's names and respect them and their children which is what people want in general.

  11. i prefer nice simple names

  12. well my name is Beverly wich is uncommon but yet very nice. I have grown to like it, I used to hate it as a kid.

My cousin is named ShyAnne which I think is completly ridiculous.

And another thing I can't stand is when parents name there kids really babyish childish names so that when they grow up it still sounds like their 2 years old.

  13. Although we named our son Joseph, I don't think badly of people who choose more unique names. If we all named our children only classic names, the world would be a very boring place. As for people always saying that a person with a unique name couldn't run for President, clearly they haven't been paying attention to this election. If a man who goes by Mitt (not his given name) can run for President then I think others with unique names can also. Also, Oprah is a very unique name, but I don't see anyone making fun of her for it. Weird spellings can get out of control but I don't mind Alivia with an A and I like Averie spelled this way because to me it looks more feminine. There are definitely a few exceptions but I really believe most parents want to give their child a beautiful or strong name. As always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Great question.

  14. Why does it annoy you so much?  They aren't your kids - to all their own.

My Cousin named her Daughter Alivia, so that her girls would have all start with "A", but she loved the name Olivia.
