People to People Ambassador Program trip to Japan 2009?

I recieved a letter for this. It sounds great and all but i would like to know the cost. Is it really $6000? and is it worth it? We arent the richest people and we'd like to know what it actually is because the website doesnt explain anything. What do you get to do? Does it give you any benifit in Jr.High? Please answer! thanks so much!

I also just got a letter for my son and I am researching it - it sounds like a great program.  I am reading other yahoo answers and one said $5000 - $6000.  You have to get 3 letters of recommendation from teachers and you have to write an essay it sounds like. You also have to be accepted into the program as a leader and positive role model. It will help you get into college and help with high school service points (credits) whatever its called and will help you get a job later in life.  An ambassador means you are a leader and you represent your city and state so it is a high honor.  In the program it says that you will go to your country of choice (in europe, asia etc)  You get leadership training and help the local population while representing your country.   I think it sounds like a great offer and recommend it!  Good luck!

    They charge more because they're profiting off of you, and that you were just randomly selected. Their safety claims are not what they say neither.
