People to People... How much does it cost?

I was looking into this People to People Ambassador's program, I have gotten invited to to one of those meetings before, but didn't go. Now I'm thinking about it... again. So how much do you know or think it costs?

My son is on one of their trips now in Australia.  The cost of the program was about $7100.  I thought this was sooo expensive until I looked at the cost of airfare alone which is about $4000+ round trip.  The program pays for everything except spending money or passport.  You don't have to worry about hotel, food, traveling from place to place.  Also the program cost includes the optional insurance (get it!!!) which covers delays, lost luggage, lost/stolen items, etc.

You can do it.  I thought he could never raise that kind of money, but you send letters to family, friends, businesses.  You sell stuff on ebay, host a luncheon, have raffles.  That is what we did and I can't believe we did it.  My younger son now wants to go to England.  Would like to know that cost.  But still think it's possible.
