Question:

People to People Student Ambassador Programs?

Today I received a letter from some organization named P2P, I was just wondering what is this, they said I have been eligible to go to the 2009 Europe trip. I was doing some research that you can one, nominate yourself (which I didn't do) or someone can nominate you (teachers etc) I have two questions, one, if you call them at the number they provide, will they inform you who nominated you? (cause I most definitely did not nominate myself LOL) and secondly, WHAT'S THE CATCH?

It's just weired... I'm confused.

  1. It's a trip overseas for young people. The group leader, one of THEM, gets to go free. You buy their clothes pay them for the trip  etc. They get your name either by a form of pyramid selling or from school rolls.Probably the rolls would be sold to them by someone. You didn't plan to go now, so try to find who nominated you, then ignore them. Their people are not official ambassadors, they put large financial burdens on you and your family and interrupt your studies too. They get rich running this scheme.

  2. Be prepared to spend beaucoup bucks. P2P is an excellent program that send students overseas. Some of the programs have the students in host family homes, other programs the kids stay in hotels and such. Either way its well organized and has chaperones.

They say that teachers and other students can nominate you. Usually if it's another student, that kids will tell you! I've asked, but they won't tell who did the nominating. I personally think they check the Who's Who guide or some open test results from schools. My child has only two teachers by the time she was nominated...so we asked them, and they hadn't even heard of the program.

Go to their informative meeting, you'll learn quite a bit about the program. IT's been around for a long time. You'll learn where you'll go, what the itinerary is, and how much $$$ you'll need for the trip.

Side note: Once I was on a flight with a bunch of middle schoolers...and I thought oh no! kids....but they were so well behaved, polite and not rowdy at all. Turn out they were P2P on their way to Fiji and Australia. So you'll be around decent kids for the most part.

That being said...we personally found the the $$ cost was too much when the whole family could go for the same price, and not do so many activities. They do promote their trips as educational. I would rather use the money on a family trip to the same destination. And the safety issue of a child being so far away from home.
