People told me to "Turn my head and cough". What????

I asked about the stuff people do at a physical at my school and 2 people told me to "turn my head and cough". WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

The doctor will put his hand under your s*****m and have you turn your head and cough.  He is checking you for a hernia.  If you have one he will feel a bulge when it occurs.
