I had some free samples of wellness core and it was completely overpowering and the poor cat didn't even want to eat it and he eats anything you put in front of him. I know the foods are completely different but how is the smell with EVO?

  1. Also alot of people think that natural is better, Natural does not mean better or safe, There are many human food and medications that are toxic to our pets!

Cats are strict carnivores, they need most of their nutrients from animal sources, but being a carnivores doesn't mean that a carnivorous animal can survive on muscle meat only.

A wild carnivore such as a Lion will kill and eat the antelope. It will l**k the hair off and chew on the skin, the organ are consumed including the stomach contents with all the partially digested grass, leaves and other grazed plant material, bones are also eatten

I don't fed Innova evo because it contain Potatoes and cat's cannot digest the starch found in potatoes, also another reason i don't feed innova eveo is that alfalfa is also toxic to cats!

  2. i've never really had an issue with that when i've fed my cats evo. but funny enough, i just bought a bag of evo ferret yesterday to switch my fur-beasties over to. i hadn't opened it yet, but i'll do it now. :-)

*cough* yeah, it's pretty strong, stronger than the evo cat food. one of the boys perked his head up as soon as he smelled it, so i don't think i'll have any problems with them eating it...i HOPE...

  3. I don't know about the fishy smell, I never really paid that much attention to the smell.  I have 2 ferrets, and 2 cats.  They all get the same mix, 50/50 of Chicken Soup for the Kitten Lover's Soul (CSKLS) and EVO Feline.

My cats have the shiniest, healthyiest coats I have ever seen on a cat, they have tons of energy, and they only p**p once a day each (the better food is getting absorbed, not wasted).

My ferrets also have very shiny, soft, healthy coats, are very energetic, and their p**p smells way less offensive than any ferret on normal ferret food (like Marshall's).  And they both p**p way less than any ferret you'll see in the pet stores, since the food is being absorbed.

EVO is one of the best, if not the best, kibble foods out there, period.  The potato starches of of no concern, since they are so low on the list.  The first 5 ingredients make up at least 90% of the bag, and with EVO, all 5 are meats.  There are no grains at all, which is excellent.

EVO's only downside is it's cost and it's richness - more than 50% in my mixes, and my cats & ferrets get diarrhea, thus I mix with CSKLS, which is also a great food for the price - this removes the diarrhea, and reduces my cost to an affordable range.

  4. I've used all three - Wellness Core, EVO Feline and Ferret - and my ferrets and the cats enjoy all of them. Anyway, I think the Feline and Ferret versions smell pretty much the same. They have a definite smell to them, but I don't think they're as strong or fishy smelling as the Wellness Core. I agree with one of the above posters though, EVO tends to make their p**p smell pretty bad, but it is good for them (except for the potato).

  5. All cat food smells fishy to me, why not feed your cat ferret food? B-) i would imagine it would taste better, Sorry i cant be more helpfull =(

  6. Well, I never really noticed, so I don't think there's a smell to it. I only feed my ferret Evo Ferret, so I've never tried the Feline kind. If there was a bad smell to it I would have noticed. It may smell bad, but Evo is one of the best ferret kibbles you could give to your ferret!

  7. Yep.  Wellness Core is pretty fishy.  :)  I cut mine by mixing it with 8in1 and evo on occasion.  Wellness does have a 'foul' based formula that is nutritionally adequate if you like the brand.  I would still mix it as it has 18% fat...could be a bit higher I think.

Evo, for ferrets, isn't fishy BUT I notice when I add it to my mix that my ferrets have some pretty rank poops.  Give it a try.  It wouldn't hurt.
