There are many people both Christian and non-Christian that have just followed what someone has told them and not have read the Bible for themselves? So my question to those who attack the Bible as a fairy tale, have you read the Bible for yourself?

If you have read the Bible and fell that it is a fairy tale please tell why and Please be respectful.

  1. Absolutely! How can you attack something you're not knowledgeable about?

    That would make it moot.

  2. yup, i have read the bible several times.... still a fairy tale.

  3. I'm sure that some of them haven't. But, on the other hand, some of them seem to be pretty educated. And when I say "them" I mean atheists. Seeing as I am a Christian myself, I don't listent to too much of them, hardly at all...But no, I don't think that most of them have read it.

  4. There really wouldn't have been any substantive reason not to believe the bible if I hadn't actually studied it in depth. I would have just gone along with what I had been taught - when I started looking closely at the book I could only surmise that it was a bunch of BS

  5. YES, I've read MANY versions of "the Bible" as well as studying Torah ! I don't know how ANYONE could take such silliness seriously !! Really ! It reads like the script of a bad science fiction novel in desperate need of editing !!!

  6. It contains many stories of a supernatural nature with no supporting evidence.

  7. I gave a good effort. Had to close the book. I just couldn't fathom spending a large chunk of my life ingesting such drivel. Garbage in, garbage out is oh so true.

  8. I don't believe that snakes can talk, there is a talking snake in the bible.

  9. Yep, I've read it cover to cover and am now in the process of perusing it again for a paper I intend to write.  Just to cite a couple of examples, the supernatural elements of the creation story, the woeful inaccuracies when it comes to science, talking snake, talking donkeys, supernatural creatures, etc. etc.

Thanks for playing, better luck next time.

  10. Well I am not an atheists but a true Christain, but to answer your question, it does not make any difference if they read it 50 times, They did not get any True Revelation of God's word. Reading the bible does not save you, But giving your heart to God will.

  11. Funny thing about the bible is you don't have to go beyond genesis to realize it's a load of tripe.  In fact, one who thinks will know it's all rubbish in the first few paragraphs.

Yes I have gone beyond Genesis. Call it masochistic behaviour or morbid curiosity if you like.

  12. I've read it,all of it,many times.WHY do I think it's a fairy tale?Too much to list.Talking snakes, clay men,rib women, and being aware of reality is enough to ensure it is a fairy tale, although each and every page holds another reason

  13. dont mean to be disrespectful but....yeah but every few years another testament comes out!!!! whats up with that? why cant the original just stay original and purely not tampered with... i dont call it a bible then...i call it a book that is written to suit to every generation that comes out and their lifestyle....

  14. Yes, that is why people attack it.  They have also read various scientific journals, studies, findings, and the like.

  15. Yes, I used to be Christian until I actually read it. I have shown many verses to devout christians that they didn't know know were in there. If you wish to see some for yourself go to http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/

  16. At least, they read super-edited snippets of Bible verses. At most, they read it 3 times and then just stopped with the conlusion that God is non-existent/evil.

  17. I was an atheist. I began reading the Bible, beginning at the Gospel of Matthew. Before I finished that Gospel, I had a religious experience, I believed in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I was the best decision I ever made in my life.

  18. Many people on this forum criticise the Bible precisely because they have read it and do not agree with what it says.

    Just one example:

In the Bible it says that God became man, i.e. Jesus.

Jesus then died. He died prematurely and had He not been crucified, may well have lived to a ripe old age, but He had to die in the end.

The Bible then says that He rose from the dead. If He was a man and was therefore mortal, He could not possibly have risen from the dead.

    2 possible conclusions:

    1. He wasn't actually dead when taken down from the cross and laid in the tomb, although people thought He was. He was in a coma and later regained consciousness, and left the tomb (improbable but just possible).

    2. The story of the Resurrection was made up. (More likely).

To be fair, although I reject much of what it says, I don't think calling the Bible a 'fairy tale' helps to explain why many generations of people have believed implicitly what it says and even been prepared to stake their lives (and the lives of others) on it.

  19. I have read most of it, are you sure you have?...anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that its a bunch of c**p.

  20. Yes, I have.  I imagine a good portion of atheist (at least in western society) were raised Christian to some degree.

"If you have read the Bible and fell that it is a fairy tale please tell why"

Why would an infinetely intelligent god require something as stupid as animal sacrifice (or human sacrifice in the case of Jesus) to appease him.  FAIRY TALE.  You are telling me this god, who created the entire universe in all its marvelous complexity then turned around and said "Now you have to burn a goat to make me happy."

The most logical explanation is that Christianity just borrowed from the other pagan religions in forming their own pagan religion.

  21. Most probably not. And although I am a Christian, i, myself, have not read it the whole way through yet. I'm working on it, though!

  22. Yes, I have.  And having some knowledge about it comes in handy when believers who haven't read it try to convert me.

One guy I dated tried to quote Revelation to me.  I had to point out that what he was quoting was attributed to Nostradamus (but it was probably fake, anyway).

  23. People find out what the Bible says by reading a modern version, don't like it, then come to the 'net and quote it in the KJV. Time and time again.

    .

  24. I have noticed  over time that most people both athiest and christians have not read the Bible. It is sad that people do not read it and quote it out of context to prove there point. Then the otherside jump on the people and it just goes around and around.

As for me I have read and study the Bible and found it is to be true and right.

  25. I have read the Bible. I would expect a book that is used as the prime source for a religion to be more perfect than it is. It is odd that a person makes use of various interpretations to remove written inconsistencies. If the Bible is the word of God, why is it so poorly written?

  26. I have read the bible.  It reads like a fairy tale.  Then i did my own research into the matter, and after looking at various sources, found that it obviously came from 4 other religions.  I have read the creation story of Zoroastrian belief, I have read the egyptian book of the dead, Sumerian religion, mysteries of Mythras, etc etc.  Everything in the bible came from other stuff.  Its a religion based off other religions before it.  Not unlike Wicca.  :P

  28. I don't know if it is a fairy tale or not, I certainly don't follow it though.

My reasons: I've rejected the idea that all people deserve only eternal torment. I've rejected the idea that God is perfect and judge him according to his actions and found him wanting. I've basically found that everything in the bible other than what Jesus said and a few other select passages (1 Corinthians 13 for example) are in contrast to what I believe.

  29. Only a very ignorant person could attack a belief that they don't understand. That's why we feel we have license to pick at some theists; many of us understand their scripture better than they do.

  30. I have read the Bible, and I think it is mostly a book of fantasy and fibs.

The talking serpent in the first book of the Bible pretty much gives that away. Add to that a boat big enough to house every single land creature that has ever existed (along with 40 days worth of food for all of them, including the carnivores), a person turning into salt and a large river consisting of nothing but blood, and you've got yourself a very interesting, but obviously fictional, bed time story.

Adults who actually believe in Bible stories rank up there with teenagers who are still trying to find Sesame Street.

  31. I've read atheist websites Bible quotes at least 5,000 times!

So I qualify as learn-ed on the Bible, thank you very much!

    I'm Atheist!
