I am interested in trying out windsurfing and would like some opinions on it. I am living through a transitional period in life and I'm looking to take up a new hobby in order to give myself a big lift when I'm not at work.

What make some of you try out windsurfing and what do you enjoy about it? Would you recommend it?

  1. i've tried it once...it's reat fun but you have to hav ideale conditions or it doesn't work...it doesn't really give you an adrenaline rush though.

  2. I thought I had answered this Q's?? Ah well... I've been windsurfing for 7 years, taught, raced and travelled abroad to compete! It's got to be the most extreme watersport I've tried! And I've tried a few!

I started by doing a taster course over the summer hols and just fell in love with it... I did all the RYA levels then went on to do an assistant instructors course then instructor in teaching level 1 - 3 then freestyle and racing...

I never really liked competing that much so now it's just a hobby...

I say go for it... It's and awsome sport and the ladies love it!

  3. kitesurfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff...

  4. I've been into watersports (water skiing and wakeboarding) for years but wanted another option when the water was too rough for the others.

I first tried windsurfing in 2005 whilst on holiday and then came back and went on a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) course. I have really enjoyed learning to windsurf and am on the point of buying my  own kit.

I would highly recommend you give it a go but go through a reputable RYA windsurfing school with modern equipment - it's so much easier to learn on than the old stuff. Usually they will offer a 2 hour taster session or the full course with qualifications at the end.

    Good luck.

  5. i love windsurffing. it's lots of fun.

  6. Go on a sailing holiday that also provides windsurfing equipment and RYA approved training. After one or two weeks in the sun you will be proficient enough to come back to the UK and enjoy the cold water.

While you are there check out the equipement and you will know what to buy.

Places like Wildwind in Greece and Minorca Sailing Holidays are great. For holiday adverts check out Boards magazine.

The feeling of speed and being on the edge of control is why we do it.

  7. Dude, try it... I'm sure you'll love it as much as everyone else here seems to, but the thing is ... you'll never know until you try...!
