People who go on reality competitions?

Question

say if a person were to be on American Idol, and they were still in school (college). away from home would they have to put their education on hold or do they still complete their assignments from a distance, like over the Internet?

They could possibly complete the work while a contestant, but it would be difficult.  The ones in high school are given time for school work, so I guess if a college student is serious about his/her degree  they could do it.  It would just be easier to take a semester or two off.

Since the auditions are in summer the ones who make it to Hollywood do not start college in the fall.  If they are eliminated, then they can go back during the second semester.  

For the ones who make it to the top, their career goals change somewhat and they  may never  go back, or may take longer to complete their studies just because of other obligations.
