Can you stand up paddle from Huntington Beach to San Diego and back in 1 day? I surf and workout almost every day, so i'm pretty athletic. The distance between the two cities is about 95 miles. What do you suggest for an instense session?

  1. Heading from HB to SD in one day, and turning around and making it back?  All on a SUP board?

Not possible.  Check out the race results below.  Here's an excerpt:

"Kyle Mochizuki captured the unlimited SUP title and fasted SUP over all covering the 8 mile course in 1:16.08 on his Ron House Stand - A - Maran ..."

8 miles covered in 1:16 comes out to about 6.3 miles per hour.  Even if you could maintain that speed for 95 consecutive miles, you would be on the water for 15 hours just to GET to San Diego.

Count on at least 20 hours (again, IF you could maintain that same energy out put) heading back to H.B. against the swell.

Instead, enroll in some of the watermen challenges and train with racers who frequent the SUPB circuit.  You can even race with them on the Catalina Channel crossing.
