Did you take Spanish or French?

Did you enjoy taking that language?

Was it ever useful to you?

Did you ever travel to a country where they spoke that language?

Did you ever wish you had chosen a different language?

I am currently taking one of these languages and wishing that I had taken the other. I'm curious what others opinions are on these languages. I'll tell you which one when I pick best answer.

  1. I take Spanish

    I love the language

It's useful all the time, my dad speaks it so I can talk to him, my friends use it in code when we don't want people to hear us and we can understand spanish conversation

I have never traveled to a country that spoke that language but I plan to in the future

I would never pick a different language!

  2. I took spanish and french. Spanish was required, and french was suggested by my mom. I (at the time) thought spanish was boring and tedious because I was never going to Spain. They taught us the language taught in Spain, and I live in America where they speak a different type of spanish (like a Spanglish) is spoken. As far as french goes- it was very difficult for me because nobody knew what the heck the teacher was saying.  He would only speak french as soon as the bell rang from the very first day and would get angry because we didn't understand.  Needless to say after getting a 48 in french I never took it again.  The spanish was usefull in as much as it made me not be afraid to initiate a conversation even if I didn't know what I was saying. I have not traveled to use the language but it would be fun. I only wish they offered Italian back then(grade school), I love how it sounds! Good Luck with which ever one you choose, study hard by talking to native speakers, they love helping just as you would them!

  3. I took Spanish for both my junior and senior year in high school.

Yes, I loved the language so much that I ended up picking it as a 2nd major when I got to college.

I think it's already been quite useful for me. I used to work in a fast-food restaurant which had a large number of Mexican employees and often I had to resort to speaking the basic Spanish I had learned in H.S. to be understood.

No, I haven't yet had the chance to travel to a Spanish speaking country per se, except for the one time I had my lay over in the Puerto Rican airport. I was able to use it a little with the workers in the gift shops (even though they spoke English, but I wanted to practice hehe). I do however have plans to study abroad in a Spanish speaking country.

Do I ever wish I had taken another language instead? No, I wish I had the the chance to take French (or any other language) along with Spanish because Spanish was the only foreign language that H.S. offered. So, that's why I've started learning French on my own.

Both languages are amazing. If you feel that you should have taken the other, don't switch unless are 100% certain that you just flat out don't like the language you're currently studying. It could just be the fact that you wish you were studying an additional language

  4. Took French

    No did not enjoy

    Not useful

    Live in a bilugual country

    Yes. Spanish or Italian.

  5. I took Spanish

    No,Its God-d**n Awful

Yes,Partly. When i went to spain i could tell vaguely what people were saying and i could order food and be polite.

I think spanish is better than french personally, french is too Fancy and spanish i think is easier to learn.I also think Spanish is more of a social language than French. Though i said earlier i hated spanish i did enjoy it at parts, and i did find it quite useful x

    Hope this helps x

  6. I picked French at school and I see it as far more than just a lesson.

For me it is a passion and a dream.

I dream of visiting France and of speaking french fluently.

I dream of being in Paris.

It was such a huge thing for me to meet French people on holiday in Spain and to speak to them in French and to have them respond was amazing!

I think learning a language is far more than just schoolwork, it is uniting the world in a way and making a whole new generation of friendships open to our generation.

I just can't wait till the day I visit Paris, the city I have dreamed about for so long.

  7. french

    loved it

    very much

lived in france, and try to go once a year

never, but i must admit i'd like to learn another language or two.

  8. Started with Spanish.  Loved it.  My Senior year, my Spanish teacher was drafted to teach French I.  I took it, becasue I wanted to, anyway, but also, I scrambled to fit it in my schedule, because it was Mrs. Neese.  Loved it, too.

Lived in Spain, Majored in Spanish, Minored in French, traveled in Paris, visited Mexico a couple of times.  Been back to Spain once.  Always wished I had more money and time at the same time!  I'd do much more travelling if that were the case.

My advice:  make sure you have the best fit for yourself in teacher.  If it is possible to sample other teachers and decide which you like best, do that.  Find a class in another place, like a community college, if that's the best fit for you.  And take the other.  NOTHING says that you can't have both!!!  They are a good mix, because they support each other in terms that if you understand the grammar of one, then you'll get the other.  If you miss something in the first, you might pick it up and make it up in the second.

Don't go around wishing you had done something different.  It's a waste of time.  Better to do something constructive!

So, the answers to your questions directly:

    1) Spanish - then French

    2) yes to both

    3) yes more the Spanish, but then, that year in France still hasn't come through for me, yet.

    4) yes to both

    5) I wish I had time to learn them all....is that a yes or no?

    :)
