  1. Me. :) I have problems with memorizing, keeping my mind on the same subject instead of jumping from place to place... I forget things all the time, whether it's homework or a meeting with a friend. I'm not hyperactive; but my mind sure goes a mile a minute. There are bonuses to it; I'm very creative and make connections between two different things like you wouldn't believe. The downside to it--the forgetfulness and distractedness--you can work around. Schedules, charts, a little notebook to keep appointments and things in (I have to wear it in a belt pouch or I lose it!). Anyway, ADHD is pretty common. I suspect it came from the fact that we were made to live in a hunter-gatherer sort of environment, but ended up living in cities and sitting in classrooms.

  2. I know the label is hung on many these days, and seems to be the catch all for any inquisitive, and normal rambunctious behavior in children, or for older ones that cannot "focus" whatever that may mean.

If I am bored I sure do not focus well, but give them, or me something we can sink our teeth in, and trust me we will focus....

Strange that our parents, and grandparents had no such problems; may it have been because they were allowed to be kids, play and work outside, as well as get good and  dirty???

There is another school of thought on ADHD and ADD, if interested visit this web site

  3. I think you need to do a little more research than busymom.  The websiteshe mentions: http://www.adhdfraud.org/ looks to be a little bit of a fraud.  Legitimate sites are not selling books and dvds.  They give you the scoop for free.  So Dr. Baughman dismisses ADHD as a fraud.  Who benefits from this fraud?  Medical companies and doctors I'm sure!  Please!  Read a quote from this site..

"The entire country, including all 5-7 million with the ADHD diagnosis today, have been deceived and victimized; deprived of their informed consent rights and drugged--for profit! It must be stopped. Now!"

Who is being deceived and victimized?  Oh, we must buy the book and video to get the truth.  I can't stand this kind of c**p!  Hey, maybe there has been over-diagnosis but conspiracy theory?  Come on!  It is real.

Check out the lower website to see the actual definition and find out the history of the term ADD/ADHD.

I have known plenty of students who were diagnosed and helped by various medications and instruction.

  4. Ask Lillian Berlin he has fought ADD.  Website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_Thin... one of the websidte, I believe you can email him, he will have the answer

  5. I know that ADD and ADHD are pretty common, especially in children, but I do not actually know someone that has that. But, I believe that one out of every twelve kids has it.

  6. I have one friend who has ADHD so bad that when she doesn't take her medication, she goes nuts, and starts shaking untill she passes out.

  7. I have ADHD and take medicine for it.

  8. i have ADHD and i was only diognosed at th age of 13 so its not just common in young kids, as well my best m8s brother whos 19 has it severly! it doesnt really make a big differance in my life though!

  9. I also have ADD. The doctor never said I was hyperactive. I was diagnosed at the age of like 9 or ten. I am 13 now and I take medicine. It calms me down but limits my appetite. What you can look is if the person has trouble concentrating. Or gets distracted really easly. You can also see if they are hyper over a week or so. One day may be the result of a sugar high. So be sure and absolutely positive that they are. And one thing to remember: NEVER and I repeat NEVER tell anyone if someone has ADD or ADHD. It is not something you should be talking about. And I'll bet you that the person doesn't want everybody knowing that they have ADD or ADHD. I know I've only told 4 people. And I trust all 4 of them. And people with ADD or ADHD, don't tell somebody if they ask. Only if you want to, you can tell your best friend. And be sure that they can keep the promise of not telling anybody. Happy New Years Everybody!!!!!!!!!!

  10. My son has it and was diagnosed in kindergarten.  He is a senior on the honor roll now.  He would not have made it in a mainstream classroom without his meds.  To address the previous poster who thinks ADHD is just a label for rambunctious kids, you are wrong.  While I think it is over diagnosed these days, it is a real disorder.  It wasn't so commonly diagnosed in decades past because kids that couldn't make it through HS could go work in the field or on farms or find other employment that didn't really require an education.  That's really not an option today.  You need a HS education MINIMALLY these days to support yourself.  Medications for ADHD can work wonders for people who really have it.  Don't judge it until you've walked a mile in their shoes...or maybe their parents' shoes or a siblings'.  It's a tougher road than you can imagine.

  11. My 6 y/o son was diagnosed with ADHD (and Global Developmental Delay) when he was 4.  He's on his 2nd year at a special education school here having therapy along with academics.  Thankfully, no meds were necessary for him.

I disagree with busymom about the older generation not having it.  I think ADHD already exists in their time but they label those kids as "slow" or plain "dumb" never realizing that it must be a type of ADHD  or ADD.  This isn't a fad.  I don't think any parent would be very happy to have kids with such deficiency because it's an IN thing.  Personally, I don't count myself as victimized as my son was not into any of those listed medication (as mentioned in her website).  My son's ADHD is not a scapegoat reason for his condition and symptoms.  I hope she won't have to experience being in our shoes for even half a mile.
