People with Family Insurance Plans - a question 4 U?

Is there normally a $200 deductable for each person in the family or just one big deductable? I think for doctor visits that for each person $200 sounds like a lot for a deductable. This is not my plan, a friend of mine - a male friend, said he has to pay his ex $200 for each of the children's deductables because they each have one her new husbands insurance plan.

Thanks ahead of time.

  1. Usually a deductible only has to be met twice for a family plan. It would really be a $400 family deductible, You could spend $200 on dad, $100 on mom, $100 on son, then the deductible has been meet for the year.

Usually on a plan with this low of a deductible the doctor visits are paid for with a co-pay which does not count toward the deductible. The deductible would come into play for care beyond the normal doctor visits such as lab work and hospital care.

$200 is actually a low deductible. Many people are are getting plans with high deductibles of $2,000 up to $5,000 per family.

Keep in mind I am speaking in general terms here and his policy may be different. A quick call to the insurance company can verify his exact terms

  2. Well, it depends on the plan!  Typically, if you have a $200 per person family, you'll also have a "family maximum" like $500 or such - more than two people, less than three.

  3. There is usually a  yearly deductible for each person  but a maximum  yearly amount for the family.
