  1. They hurt for the first day when you get them and when you get them tightened, you get them tightened about once a month, it's not bad at all.

  2. It does hurt a lot. But everyone has a different threshold of pain.

It doesn't hurt to get them, all it just hurts to eat. Oh yeah, your mouth might get all cut up too.

When they are tightened it hurts as much as it did when they were put on.

Some orthos like it every 4 weeks, some like every 8 weeks. Some anywhere in between. Some appointments are as long as 16 weeks apart.

  3. No, it doesn't hurt. It hurts depending on how bad your teeth are, and spaced out teeth usually doesn't hurt. A lot of my friends have braces and they say they can't even feel them. I'm getting them soon too, so you're not alone on this. Good luck!

  4. Yes, braces hurt the first time you get them on. But eventually people get used to them. Yes, they'll hurt if they're tightened.

HOW OFTEN, you ask? I'm not sure... doesn't it depend on the person?

Just think of how much better your teeth would look after braces! :D You know? Think of the result.

I also think that getting braces early is better.

  5. doesn't hurt, just get's tight feeling.

and youget them tightend like every month or two.

    get them done.

i love my teeth now, there perfectly straight.

    well worth it.

  6. That depends on what type of braces you get. I have the damen system.

It didnt hurt when they were putting them on, but it did hurt after that.

It does hurt to get them tightened, and I get mine tightened every 8-10 weeks.

You should get them though, because the pain goes away after like 3-5 days.

  7. Well first of all, are you gonna want your teeth to look like that forever??

    mmm...I doubt it.

It didn't hurt me at all, although you do get sore after wards and you feel a little discomfort because your not used to them.  There's even medicine you can rubb on if you feel some type of pain.

If the orthodontist knows how to treat you right, it shouldn't hurt also.

I get them tighten once every month.

    good luck :]

  8. I just got my braces off two days ago :D

I highly recommend them.  Before, my teeth were awful and crooked and had gaps in between.  I had braces on for a year and two months, and now that I have them off, they're perfect.  I am so happy with how they turned out!

When you first get them on, they hurt a little bit for the first week or so.  It's not excruciating pain, but it does feel a little uncomfortable.  If you take Motrin it helps a lot.  When you get them tightened it doesn't hurt as much, maybe for a day or two.  You get them tightened about every six weeks.

    Good luck!

  9. Don't worry about getting braces, everyone is scared of getting them. Well, actually not me cause I felt pretty excited. Anyways getting your braces hurt for a week when you first get them. You can't eat, chew, you have to just drink soup. Each month they tighten your teeth and it hurts for a couple of days cause your teeth are moving so you can have a beautiful smile. Braces usually last for 2 years and you have to visit your ortho every month. The fun part is you get to change the color of your braces everymonth.

  10. My cousin has braces... i can ask her these questions right now...

She says it doesn't hurt when you get them..

She also says that it sometimes hurts and sometimes it doesn't.. it depends...

And lastly she is not sure how often she goes...lol, i know this isn't much of a help, but im just trying to help ppl!

<3 good luck... and NOOOO need whatsoever to be embarrased about ur teeth, u are who u are and if someone has a problem... its WAY too bad for themmmmmm.... you know? :)

  11. i had them when you get them on they dont hurt there is just alot of pressure on your teeth that your not used to and getting them off hurts and you might bleed a little but there worth it

  12. Not going to lie to you, (As much as I wish I could!) but braces are a pain in the......you know what.

But -- once you get them off you will be totally grateful you got them. (Although I am not quite at this point yet. =[[)

The worse part about braces is getting them tightened, getting them on is no problem compared to that. You get them tightened every 4 or 5 months, not very often. The important part is that you don't worry or you will psych yourself out. It is far worse how you imagine it then it is in reality -- DO NOT WORRY. =]]

    You'll be fine.

    Good Luck!

    Hope I helped!

  13. its not that bad...when u get them tightened its not that bad either...they are sore like the first month...its worth it though...i had a space in my teeth 2...i look 4622346423 times better now.

  14. Braces don't hurt that much and trust me its nothing that you can't deal with.

They don't hurt when you get them tightened only when you first get them on.

Really don't be scared, it's fine.

    GOOD LUCK

    x (:

  15. hey i had braces for 3 years. i had a major overbite... my top teeth went way forward and my bottom teeth were too far back. i just got them off like a month ago. honestly its so worth it! its kinda expensive.. and you usually have to go for monthly trips to the orthodontist. but if you teeth are that bad that you dont even want to smile then you should ask your dentist if you should get braces to fix it... and look into it. when you get them on it feels totally weird and it does hurt a bit... and everytime u get them tightened (once a month)... you sometimes get the wire changed too. and that is sore for only a couple of hours usually.. for me anyway. so dont be scared about it.

  16. I had braces as a teen, and my teenage daughter has them now.  Your mother is trying to scare you, I think. Braces are not that bad -- if they were, why would millions of people have them?

Sometimes when you get them tightened, your mouth will ache a little bit that night.  It's later, not when the orthodontist is actually tightening them, that you feel it.  But a tylenol always makes it quit.  It's nothing terrible.  REALLY!!!

  17. Yes they hurt alot its like your teeht r being pulled together... youll get used to the pain evetually, but when it gets tightened itll hurt even more. its worth it in the end i guess...

  18. Calm down. Braces have changed my life in a very positive way. I got braces in seventh grade because, like you my teeth were very, very spaced out. I had them for a year and a half. When you get them on, you don't feel anything but weird for about 2 hours, then the pain starts to kick in, and yes I will say it does hurt. For about a week they will be very sensitive and it is hard to eat anything excpet noodles, soup, ect. When you get them tightened, however, they don't hurt that bad. They hurt for maybe the day after you get them tightened and then it's pretty much okay. You get them tightened about once every month and a half. They don't hurt as bad as people say, I promise. Don't listen to these people on here that will try to scare you. They are not that bad and they gave me a beautiful smile that I can now be proud of. Best of luck, I hope I helped.

  19. I got my braces when I was in seventh grade about 6 years ago and got them off two years later the first week of ninth grade. It did not hurt to get them on or to get them tightened or anything. It's just a feeling that you aren't used to. It is uncomfortable having your mouth open for that long while they are putting them on, adjusting them, and tightening them but not at all painful. If you are unhappy with your smile, go for it. It is very worth it in the end. And it's always better to get them while you are younger. I got mine as early as I could so I wouldn't have to go through high school with braces. (;
