Their defeat against Los Blancos effectively meant that the Spanish champions crown will change hands come the end of the season.
In the wake of El Clasico defeat, ousting from the UEFA Champions League at the hands will mean La Blaugrana failing in their pursuit of two of their most coveted championships.
Barcelona have won 13 out of the 16 competitions they have participated under the tautology of Pep Guardiola and the Catalan head coach has the biggest challenge of his short managerial career.
Reflecting on the situation, Guardiola claimed that he is looking forward to their European encounter with the West London club and believes his players will triumph against the stiff opposition.
The retired Spanish international claimed that they will have to make the most of the opportunities they create and but will first have to find the channel to breach their defences.
"I do not know if this will be the biggest challenge since I have been a coach, but I always look at these matches with optimism because of the faith I have in these players," the 41-year-old tactician commented.
However, Guardiola asked for caution in the fixture as he highlighted Chelsea’s pedigree in the elite continental competition. He stated that the Blues can hit them on the counter and believes they should be defensively astute when they lose possession.
"We have to be careful with Chelsea's strong points. They have been playing like this for a long time.”
"We will have to create chances and score goals. But the hardest thing is to know how to attack against them.”
"When we lose the ball, we will have to be covered so that they will not hurt us [on the counterattack]."
The Champions League fixture between the two European giants will kick off at the Camp Nou at 20 45 Central European Time on April 24, 2012.
