Pep Guardiola may be the man to replace Sir Alex Ferguson
One question in the world of football that has been asked gazillion times is who will replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. Many names have been thrown in the hat over the years, but obviously none have been confirmed
ever by Manchester United as Sir Alex just does not seem to be in a mood to ever retire. The Scott has been at the club for more than 2 decades and there was a time when he thought about calling it a day, but then decided to continue and win some more accolades
for the Red Devils. Ferguson has won 31 trophies during his time at Old Trafford, and created many superstars. But one question that has been lingering around Old Trafford for years is still to be answered - Who will fill his shoes once he finally decides
to call it a day?
Recent speculations suggest that the Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola will be the man to take the job after Sir Alex. The reports published in a leading British Newspaper suggest that Ferguson himself has recommended Guardiola purely
due to his attacking mentality and his pragmatic style of management. The report also suggests that the Barca boss has been approached about the future job, and he has also shown some interest in making his way to Old Trafford when the time comes.
Recently there were reports in Spanish media that Pep Guardiola has been having some problems with the new club management. Barcelona President Sandro Rosell is believed to be the one who Guardiola has found hard to get along
with. A new contract for the former Barcelona player is believed to be the dispute at the club, and Guardiola is believed to be seeking confirmation and assurance from the club regarding his future. The current contract for Guardiola expires at the end of
2012 season.
Despite reports suggesting that Guardiola is being linked with the job at Manchester United, earlier there were strong speculations that Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho will be the man to step in once Sir Alex decides to call
it a day.
However, now it does look more likely that Guardiola will be the one making his way to Manchester United. The pundits have tipped him to be the favourite, especially considering the amount of problems he has been having at the
club. Former Manchester United player, Sir Bobby Charlton had also recently said that he admired the attacking style of Guardiola much more then the tactical approach of Mourinho.
Sir Alex is expected to retire at best after 2 more seasons. The one target he had wanted to achieve was that of going ahead of Liverpool’s record of 18 league titles. Manchester United won the Premier League 3 years in a row from
2007 to 2009. Now United have levelled Liverpool’s record and are on 18 league titles, Ferguson wants to get one more under his belt before he bids farewell to the game. If Manchester United manage to win the league this season the Scott may be inclined on
making a decision.
Over the past 2 decades and a half what Sir Alex has achieved can never be replicated, but the United Boss did say that he will expect that whosoever replaces him has the interest of the club at heart. Ferguson said that the most
important thing to understand at Manchester United is the heritage and history of the club, and added that anyone who wants to be associated with the club needs to have all that in mind.
