The Catalan tactician has finally decided to bid farewell to the club he coached for four seasons including the current campaign.
Pep Guardiola has finally decided to leave his position as the head coach of Barcelona and will part ways with the Spanish giants at the end of the current season. The Spaniard expressed his intentions to depart from the club in a press conference on Friday.
What may appear to be a shock to many football fans across the world, has now become a reality. Guardiola will not continue as the manager of Barca in the next season’s campaign.
The 42-year-old’s statement has brought an end to the saga which continued to evolve as the season progressed and kept the manager’s future in the limelight.
As the former La Blaugrana midfielder publicly confirmed that he will not be extending his current contract with the Catalan giants, a number of Barca players were there to accept the decision of their coach.
According to reports, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 decided against coming to the conference as the news was too much of a shock for him.
Clearly, Guardiola’s departure from the Catalan capital brings to an end an era widely cherished in the world of football. Not only was the former Barca coach a genius at work, he also managed to forge a team which dominated the world of football for three
consecutive seasons.
During the reign of the Spanish mentor, La Blaugrana managed to achieve success in 13 competitions out of a total of 18. Surely such a remarkable feat is rare and outstanding, considering the modern game.
While addressing the press conference, the 42-year-old quoted:
"I want you to understand this isn't a simple decision. but I'll try to explain what I feel and I hope that people understand. I'm deeply sorry for the confusion over the last few weeks."
"I've always wanted short contracts because the demand at Barca is so big. I lived that as a player, and I know exactly how it works. I always thought that four years is an eternity for a club. I didn't want to have a contract that will bind me to decisions
I didn't want.”
Barcelona have announced Tito Vilanova as Pep Guardiola’s successor at the Nou Camp and it will be very interesting to see whether the Spaniard is able to live up to the legacy left behind by his predecessor.
