Real Betis coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-c29670 Mel, has come out and said that he takes full responsibility for his team’s 5-1 thrashing by their derby rivals, Sevilla.
The Beticos were simply overpowered by their neighbours at the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.
Sevilla were just running on all four cylinders as they scored four goals before the interval and Mel conceded that was a nightmare for his team.
However, the Beticos boss was quick to congratulate Sevilla and admitted that they wholly deserved the win.
“First of all I must congratulate Sevilla, who were worthy winners, but I accept full responsibility for this defeat,” Pepe explained.
Mel has also talked about his plan for the derby encounter and admitted that it back fired right from the beginning and because of that he accepts and takes full responsibility for it.
“Every Coach has a plan but it went wrong in just five or six seconds,” he added.
The Spanish coach also stated that it will be a tough week for his shocked side. However, he stressed the importance of recouping from the loss and getting ready for their next big encounter with the defending champions, Real Madrid.
“It’s going to be a difficult week. When people say nice things about us we like it, yet when things go badly then that is when we need to be strong and prepare for Saturday’s game, at home to Real Madrid.”
The 49-year-old has also commented on the early goal his team has conceded. He acknowledges how the early goal they conceded was a key factor and advantage for their opponents, yet he refrained from using that goal as an excuse.
Mel stated how the goal played a crucial role in the match’s outcome, but also believes his side had plenty of time to recover from it.
“The goal conceded so soon was key to things, but there was still 45 minutes left of the half.”
The win for Sevilla means they have managed to close the four-point gap that existed between them and the Beticos. Michel’s men have now risen to the 8th position on the table and as a result of that they reduced the lead of their derby rivals
to just one.
