Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has asserted that it is not the Reds’ ‘identity’ to concede so many goals. The Anfield-based club has failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five friendly matches.
Kenny Dalglish’s men have conceded three goals in all of their past five friendly matches and Reina has stated that it is not Liverpool’s identity to concede three goals in all five consecutive matches. The Spanish custodian believes that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s new
players need some time to settle but has urged the team to improve their game defensively.
“We have a lot of work ahead of us - we cannot afford to concede so many goals. We have some new signings and are still working them into our system but to let in three is not our identity.” Reina said.
The Merseyside club are being considered to once again challenge for the English Premier League title. Manchester United overcame Liverpool in the overall title race after winning their 19th premier league title last season.
Reina has insisted that the Reds should be optimistic about the upcoming season but has asserted that Liverpool will have to improve drastically if they want to challenge Manchester United for the league title.
“We must be optimistic but we were far behind United last year and need to improve," the Spanish keeper added.
Moreover, Liverpool’s talismanic attacker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348 also believes that the Reds are in desperate need to improve their defending. However, the Dutch attacker is confident that Liverpool will work on their problems and will improve ahead of the upcoming 2011/12
Barclays Premier League season.
"We are letting in too many but we have to defend like a team. That starts from the front. I'm not concerned as it's still pre-season and I'm sure if we do that a little bit better, then we'll be ready," Kuyt concluded.
Dalglish has also taken notice of his team’s poor defence and has assured that the Reds will be working on their defensive problems. Liverpool will be aiming to keep a clean sheet in their next friendly match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 on August 6.
