The Gunners have long been in the hunt for an experienced goalkeeper to help strengthen their ranks. With current first choice shot stopper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wojciech-Szczesny-c36998 still learning the ropes, it is understood that manager Arsene Wenger is on the look-out for an
experienced international keeper who will provide Szczesny with much needed competition and keep him on his toes.
Second and third choice keepers http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukasz-Fabianski-c22910 are not deemed able enough to be serving as deputies for a club of Arsenal’s stature, with the latter prone to injuries and significant time on the sidelines.
Mannone filled in for the Gunners this season when Szczesny was injured, and showed signs of improvement as he started almost all of their games in the first three months of the campaign. However, the Italian does not command an imposing presence in the
box, and lacks the leadership and communication traits that a world class goalkeeper should possess.
This leaves Arsenal with problems at the back, especially in the wake of injuries and a back line susceptible to individual errors and mistakes.
Arsenal have incurred the highest number of individual errors in the league this season. An individual error is defined as a mistake by a player which directly leads to a goal from the opposing team. Arsenal need to address their defensive frailties before
it is too late, and what better way to start than from the back?
It is understood that Arsene Wenger will definitely buy a quality goalkeeper in the January winter transfer window, with Reina top on his list.
Stoke City’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Asmir-Begovic-c6841 is also rumoured to be rated highly by the Frenchman, and may be signed if a move for Reina fails to materialize.
Wenger tried signing the Spaniard two seasons ago, but a move never took place. Liverpool had every intention to hold on to their No.1 and did so. This season however, it is rumoured that Liverpool are on the hunt for Birmingham City’s Jack Butland, and
if signed, it may pave the way for Reina’s exit.
The Spanish international is a proven keeper in the Premier League, and has bags of experience when it comes to English top flight football. Reina will strengthen the Arsenal back line and give them depth when it comes to defensive options.
Another thing the Spaniard will bring with him will leadership qualities and seniority, something the current Arsenal No.1 will hugely benefit from. At the moment, it remains to be seen whether a move for the Liverpool player will happen, but with the January
window approaching soon, everyone has their eyes set on the transfer market.
