Pepe Reina urges Liverpool to move on after Torres’ departure
Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has urged his team-mates to move on from Fernando Torres’ sudden departure, saying that the Reds must stop dwelling on the past and concentrate on making the most of what they now have.
Torres recently left Anfield to join Chelsea, making him public enemy number one amongst the Liverpool faithful. Some Reds fans have vented their anger at the Spaniard by burning replica shirts bearing the striker’s name. However, goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 urged
the supporters not to forget all that Torres had done for the club.
Reina, who was part of the World Cup winning Spanish squad along with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, said, “Some of the people are saying he's being disrespectful, with Liverpool, but all that Fernando gave to Liverpool was huge. He grew up as a Liverpool player and Liverpool
has also grown as he's been a player on the team. I think he did everything for this club.”
The Liverpool number one added, “Fernando was great for us for three-and-a-half seasons, and we wish him all the best.”
However, Reina believes that even though the striker is gone, Liverpool will battle on. He said that the arrival of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez will more than fill the void left by El Nino’s departure.
The Liverpool shot-stopper added, “Liverpool will always attract good players because it's an historic club. It's one of the big four teams in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. I hope for many more of the goals that Luis scored within 30 minutes of coming on Wednesday. We have to
welcome him and Carroll as well.”
Reina will face his old team-mate when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. The Reds goalkeeper was upbeat ahead of Sunday’s game against the reigning Premier League champions. He said that although Chelsea
are a good team, Liverpool will not be pushovers. Reina added that three consecutive wins with as many clean sheets would give them a lot of confidence going into the crucial fixture.
A win for the Reds will be a significant step in their bid to break into the top four this season. Let’s see whether they can continue their ascent up the table when the two sides clash on Sunday.
