Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has promised to stick around at Anfield, despite recent reports that he would be leaving in the January transfer window.
The Spanish international has recently been linked with many of the best clubs in Europe, including the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Real Madrid.
The 28-year-old signed a new deal with the Reds last season which will see him stay at the club until 2016. The Liverpool shot-stopper says he is determined to honour his contract, regardless of offers from other clubs.
Speaking on his future at Liverpool, Reina said, “I'm tired of rumours linking me with many teams in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and abroad. I am a man of my word and commitment. I will honour my contract with Liverpool. Stories of these offers are not true. I have not spoken
to anyone - ever - and I am 100 per cent a Liverpool player. Since I've been here I've found an incredible passion, more than I thought from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011. Liverpool as a club is sacred, it is something special. Being Liverpool's goalkeeper is a privilege. For now,
I just want to win trophies for them.”
The only major title that Reina won with the Reds was the 2006 FA Cup. The 28-year-old says he now wants to start winning trophies again to bring the club back to its former glory. Liverpool’s current position is unacceptable for a club with such a pedigree.
The Reds find themselves in the middle of the table, almost surely out of contention for the coveted Champions League spot and definitely out of the running for the Barclays Premier League title.
Manager Roy Hodgson has pleaded for patience from the fans, insisting that Liverpool can return to winning ways if given the necessary time. Hodgson has endured a difficult period at Anfield, finding himself under intense pressure after Liverpool’s disastrous
run of form this season.
However, the Liverpool manager will be happy to have support from players like Pepe Reina. The Liverpool goalkeeper has proven that even in this era of gigantic transfer fees, there are some things more important than money.
