http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s number one shirt, Pepe Reina, has admitted that he would join arch-rivals Manchester United in the summer transfer window if he was made an offer.
Pepe Reina, who has been undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League since his arrival from Villarreal in 2005, has been constantly linked with a move away from Anfield. Earlier in the season, the Spanish goalie claimed that he is fully
committed to Liverpool and would stay at Anfield for the rest of his career.
However, Reina, who was part of Spain’s world cup winning squad, took an unexpected u-turn and has now publicly shown an interest in moving to Manchester United for the first time in his career. Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, also wants to
sign the goalie because the Red Devils sees Pepe Reina as a long term replacement for Edwin van der Sar. With Van der Sar deciding to hang up his gloves by the end of this season, Manchester United is looking for the Dutchman’s replacement. It seems like Pepe
Reina could be the next player to wear the number one shirt at Old Trafford.
There are also rumours that Manchester United will try to sign Reina by paying his buy-out clause of £20m. Pepe Reina told the Spanish media that he would love to move to Manchester United next season. He stated to media, "Yes, well Van der Sar will hang
up his gloves in the summer so of course they are looking. I can't do anything. I can't say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool. Of course one likes to fight for titles and be in a team that does that. We always fought to be in the Champions
League and try to win the title. But unfortunately it hasn't been the case in the last couple of years."
The Spaniard also claimed that if Liverpool failed to qualify for the Champions League this season then he would definitely seek a move to clubs with Champions League potential. He also commented, "I won't lie, I want to play in the Champions League and
challenge for titles."
With the Champions League approaching quickly and Reina’s contract expiring after five years, it will be interesting to see how the clubs and players will negotiate a possible transfer.
