Pepper Lane and Mac’s Power hold positions for the William Hill Gold Cup on Saturday
The event established back in 1804, William Hill Gold Cup is a flat race held in Scotland for thoroughbred contestants aged three years or older. The race is for the distance of six furlongs and is run at Ayr in September each year.
In 2010, it was Redford, under charge David Nicholls, who won the title under Frankie Dettori and the lucky jockey, got the honour for straight two years. In 2009 he won onboard Jimmy Styles.
This year there are 27 declared runners for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, both Pepper Lane and Power being among them.
The last race in which Pepper Lane ran and won was in August at the William Hill Great St Wildfrid Stakes (Handicap). He won the race quite impressively under Daniel Tudhope and through the training of David O’Meara.
Kevin Ryan’s Our Jonathan under Phillip Makin was second in the race and with David Nolan onboard third in position was Richard Fahey’s Mayson.
On this occasion David Nicholls was being represented from two ends, Evens and Odds who came seventh, and Gallagher who stood nineteenth. The field was set for nineteen contestants.
Pepper Lane turned out to be one of the last horses that came out of the hat in the live draw that was held at the track. According to that, Pepper Lane got gate 11 for Saturday’s race which his part owner Kevin Nicholson does not find to be the ideal stall to break from in a field of nineteen.
Part-owner Kevin Nicholson said: "Ideally we would have liked a higher draw but you've got to go where you are picked. I think we'll be all right. She's improved that much this season - it's a big surprise to us all. It's fantastic to be running, never mind thinking of winning, but she's there with a serious chance”.
On Saturday, another one taking part in the same race is Mac’s Power who will race out of gate eight which no doubt can prove to be one of the important factors for being victorious.
He has not been as successful this year as Pepper Lane because Mac’s Power failed to post any wins this year but does hold the credit of delivering some really remarkable performances.
Mac’s Power is getting an opportunity that 19 other horses do not have as he is allocated the eighth gate as mentioned earlier too.
Let us see if he can post a winning after all and if Pepper Lane’s team’s confidence does get a chance to surface or not.
