Peppermint tea and a stomach ache?

Does peppermint tea really help cure a stomach ache, or does it make it worse?

  1. Everyone is different and stomachaches have different causes. Mints are anti-spasmodics and that can help if the stomach is cramping. They also are alkaline which helps if you have acid reflux.

    If the stomachache is actually in the lower bowel, it works best to take enteric coated peppermint gel caps. Or one can do a massage of the lower abdomen with pure essential oil of mint diluted in olive oil. Not used in pregnancy.

    I've never heard anyone say peppermint tea made pain worse. However, just drinking mint tea because it tastes good can sometimes cause indigestion. If a person is nervous and exciteable, mint can make them more hyper.


  2. Peppermint has a soothing and relaxing effect on your muscles to help calm a raging stomach.  It shouldn't make it worse.
