Pepsi decides to sponsor Dickson Kibet and Joseph Kimisi
Pepsi, the famous international soft drink brand that has been sponsoring famous sports, has finally decided to extend its support to two Kenyan athletes, Dickson Kibet and Joseph Kimisi.
Both the runners, who will be enjoying the sponsorship extended by the brand, are expected to lineup for the title at the Beirut Marathon on Sunday.
However, it must be considered over here that the offer made by Pepsi is not a promotional contract, rather, it is a sponsorship aimed at helping the players to bear their travel, training, accommodation and running kit purchasing expenses in Lebanon.
Kenya has always dominated the world’s running courses and considering the country’s emerging talent, it is expected to uphold this tendency in the days to come.
The support that Pepsi has extended will push the performers to not feel discouraged by the paucity of their financial resources and focus on exploiting their innate athletics skills.
Kimisi, an emerging athlete, clocked an impressive two hours, twenty two minutes and fifty three seconds while running in the Andersen Marathon, whereas Kibet was the winner of the Mascom Phikwe run held in Botswana.
Talking about his expectations from the Beirut Marathon, Kimisi, the 30-year-old runner said, “This will be the first time to tackle the Beirut Marathon and my aim is to run my career best and go under 2:14, I want to better my time, I’m eager and ready
to participate in a race that is said to be difficult”.
Adding further, Kimisi announced that he was to dedicate the upcoming event to his young son who is to celebrate his first birthday on the 13th of the next month.
He said, “My son, Emmanuel Kioko will turn one year on December 13 which is very near and my prayer is that I go there and perform to my best so that I can give him a perfect birthday”.
Kibet, also 30 years old, while commenting on his expectations from the Sunday’s run, said, “I have trained hard for this race and my aim is to go under 2:15 and I’m especially motivated because of the support we have received here today”.
However, he said that his performance will be contingent on the weather conditions for which he was trying to prepare himself, appropriately.
