A glass of Pepsi got knocked over onto the keyboard of our laptop, I immediately dried it off and used paper towel to clean between the keys and such... I removed the battery and allowed it to dry out for a couple of days just in case... now when we try to turn the laptop on it loads to teh Vista login page and then shuts off... I also tried to start it in safe mode and it works that way... what can we do?

  1. see what happens when you pour some coke on it

  2. Well you can try to remove the keys in themselves and clean underneath very carefully and then place them after you've cleaned them too back in, the pepsi may have gotten the keys sticky including the on off maybe? so it may just be holding it down slightly or something around that area. (make sure you use rubbing alcohol to clean a little bit and a q-tip because the rubbing alcohol will dry up fast and help too.)

  3. Take the battery back out immediately, and also the AC adapter, if it's plugged in. Get this thing down to the shop. (And I mean a Computer Shop! Not 'Geeks Are Us', if you catch my meaning!) The Pepsi may have gone underneath the keyboard, and could be on the processor, plus other hardware components. The liquid in the Pepsi itself, will act like a conductor for electricity, shorting out the laptop, plus and/or the acid in the Pepsi is eating the laptop up. Hopefully it can be 'saved', but don't get your hopes up!

  4. The only thing you can do is get a new one! sorry that happened but you can get a new battery probably. i saw that in movies and it was done simply.  well thats a nice question.

  5. I would take it to a computer repair place, and see if they can fix it.

  6. Hi Mike

It needs a good cleanup. Most laptop have a waterproof mat between computer keys and motherboard. If you can boot in safe mode, then it works. Once in safe mode, go in System hardware and verify to ake sure that all drivers are loaded and that their is no flags. If you see a n exclamation mark, update that driver and then reboot. That should fix the issue.

I am suspecting a key is stuck and the boot sequence thinks you are holding the key on purpose.

  8. if its reached the motherboard then its beyond repair, the motherboard will be ruined once the pepsi dries, crystals will form on the board and may even form crack in areas of the board, but the dried pepsi is enough to destroy it anyway
