Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker has rubbished off any links with the English Premier League side, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429. The player has consistently been linked with a move away from the club this summer and Emirates Stadium seems to be the likely destination.
The player has vowed to stay in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 and honour his contract which expires at the end of the 2011/12 season. However, the club are keen on selling him to work out their financial woes.
It is believed that Mertesacker will eventually have to move out of Weserstadion during this summer. Arsenal have been facing constant problems at the back and with injury to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at the weekend, Mertesacker’s chances
of leaving the club look more likely. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger already has the defender in his sights and could soon make a bid for the German international before the transfer window closes on August 31.
The towering defender has made the intentions clear of staying at the club until the end of his contract. The 26-year-old so far has featured in all of the Bremen’s three league games and has wished to represent the River Islanders until the end of this
season.
The Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 player also hoped to get a contract extension at the end of this season. The player would otherwise be eligible to move elsewhere on a free transfer which won’t be of any advantage to the Green-Whites.
The centre back concluded by saying, ‘I am a player of Werder Bremen and I like playing in the green-white of the club. Nothing will be changed on that. I love being skipper of the club and I proceed on the assumption that I will at least see out the campaign
in the colours of Werder Bremen.’
The player is into his sixth year at the club having joined them in 2006. In 142 league games for the outfit, he has scored an impressive 12 goals. He earned his German call-up in 2004 and has a solitary goal to show from 75 international caps until now.
