Per Mertesacker believes Arsenal’s hard work is paying off – Premier League Update
Arsenal defender and German international, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Per-Mertesacker-c29680 believes that the Gunners hard work is finally paying off.
So far this season, Arsenal have managed to pick up only two wins from their opening six games to the season. The main reason for the Gunners suffering such a poor start, is due to the team’s defence.
Arsenal’s defence has been operating like a joke and the team has been conceding goals left and right. Poor defending was the reason for the team being humiliated by Manchester United and for the Gunners failing to beat Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385.
However, it seems like Arsene Wenger has managed to get his backline operating at a maximum, once again. The team went on to beat Bolton Wanderers by three goals to nil and during the game, the Gunners defenders seemed to finally be back to their best.
Mertesacker has gone on to reveal that the manager has been asking the defenders to put in extra hours after training to patch up the leaky defending and to get all the defenders to form a decent partnership.
Mertesacker, when talking about the changes that the team had brought to the team’s defensive regimes, is quoted to have said: “We had a little bit more time [during the week] because of the Carling Cup match [against Shrewsbury Town at the Emirates].

"Some players had a little more rest and we trained a little harder, especially on the way we want to defend. It worked and on Saturday you saw we had a better defence. We were closer together.

"After the four goals against Blackburn we lost a little bit of confidence but we were very proud of our performance on Saturday. We want to go on with this way of defending.

"I want to do a good http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, especially in the defence. That is my role. If the coach praises me then that is a great thing but I have to go on and keep on working. My performances can improve."
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 are now looking to take on Olympiakos in the Champions League, followed by a game against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The only way Arsenal are going to be able to come out of both those games with a win, is if the team’s defenders try
and hold together and prevent the Gunners from conceding cheap goals.
Mertesacker is also going to be crucial to the team, since his contributions during the absence of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 could make or break the Gunners season.
