Perak optimistic to win against Kuala Lumpur in National Schools Championship
Perak, the last year’s runner up squad, is quite optimistic to overwhelm Kuala Lumpur in the semi-finals of the Under-18 Boy’s National Schools Championship to ride into the finals of the event. The two teams showed impressive performances in the quarter-final
stages and outclassed Selangor and Kelantan respectively that took place at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Baru, on June 03.
Mohd Nizam Mohd Hashim, the Coach of the Perak team, while speaking to the media stated that they were beaten by the Kuala Lumpur by three goals, 3-0 in the last edition. However, they would not let it happen again. He stated, “Last year KL beat us 3-0 in
the final. We will not allow that to happen again and want to accomplish our mission to return with the title.”
Saiful Munir, the trainer of the Kuala Lumpur team, in a responding statement said that they were in no mood to fall before the Perak squad and will continue their winning-streak. He added, “It is easier said than done. We will do our talking on the field.
It will be an intriguing semi-final match. KL (Kuala Lumpur) are in no mood to go out at this stage of the tournament.”
In the way to success, Kuala Lumpur edged past Malacca by a single goal, 1-0 before thrashing Pahang by a commanding 11-0. In the quarter-final, they were dominated by the Kelantan team in the early minutes. Azmi Derman of Kelantan scored the opening goal
of the game in the 4th minute. However, they failed to hold back the lead and lost the game with heavy margin.
In the later time, Muhamad Zulhaziq converted a short-corner in the 16th minute of the game. After making the score level at one-all, Kuala Lumpur received another three goals to take the opponents down. Ahmad Ikhwan Shah Harun scored a goal in
the 21st minute while his team-mates, Muhammad Amirul Aideed Arshad and Zizi Azwan Hassan Basri, in the 67th and 68th minutes respectively.
In another match, Mohamad Ashran scored a couple of goals while his team-mates, N. Kaatigan and Muhamad Fitri Ismail, added one each in the 4-1 victory against Selangor. From the other side, the solitary goal was scored in the hands of Muhammad Haikal Zamri.
In the Girls’ section, Terengganu defeated Kuala Lumpur by a single goal, 1-0. Nurul Syafika Nabilah Hussin stole the show and scored the solitary goal in the win.
In the other girls’ match, Malacca trounced Johor by two goals, 3-1. Nur Aslinda, Ayu Malina Zainuddin and Nurul Aqilah Izzati Hasnawi scored one goal apiece in the triumph. From the other side, Hamis Nadiah notched the solitary goal in the loss.
