  1. We are an affluent nation, how can 5.63% be accurate?

  2. 1.5%

  3. I think it's actually a fairly high number, I was surprised when I heard

  4. Worth noting, from the same page:

The distribution of income among individuals differs substantially from household incomes as 42% of all households had two income earners.  As a result 15.8% of households have six figure incomes, even though only 5.63% of Americans had incomes exceeding $100,000.

Since most households buy collectively, that 15.8% number is more reliable in terms of comparing with the neighbors.

  5. 5.63%
