Percentage increase and scientific notation?

I have two numbers in scientific notation that i need to find the percentage increase of and i dont know how! help!

2.634 X 10^13 and 2.9 x 10^13

any ideas?!

  1. You could type both sums into a scientific calculator, then use this website to help you calculate the percentage increase:

  2. Divide the second number by the first one. The 10^13 will cancel since they are the same.

    2.9/2.634=1.100987; deduct 1 and multiply by 100; (1.100987-1)*100=10.0987

    2.9 is 10.0987% larger than 2.634, so is 2.9*10^13 from 2.634*10^13.

    A simpler example 110 and 100

    [(110/100)-1]*100=[1.1-1]*100=0.1*100=...

    110 is 10% larger than 100

This ones easy because both numbers are to the same power(If they hadn't been you would have to convert to same power or to raw basic numbers).As it is simply(on calculator) divide 2.9 by2.634(mine's not handy just now).Then take away 1(the figure before the decimal point)and multiply what's left by 100.and the result is your answer as a percentage(My guess is just a bit over 10%)
