Question:

Percentage of Money? how to work out?

At my work, I have been introduced into a new bonus scheme where if we hit margin targets, we then earn either a 5% or 6% bonus of of salary

So for examply, If I was to earn £6000 for the month, I will then get 5% or 6% of that, (before the tax).

But I've totally forgot how to work from a percentage first, rather than equate something to a %.

Im sure someone can help me :D

  1. Think of the whole number (e.g £5000.00) as 1 or 100% to start with.

To get 6%, for example, either divide by 100 and multiply by six or you can multiply by 0.6

    Therefore 6% of 5000 = 300.

This also works the other way, where you know your six percent has given you e.g £480, and you want to know how much you earned before the deduction.

So, you divide by 6, then multiply by 100 (just invert the operation.)

    480 / 6 x 100 = 8000.
