Percentage of autistic children given away by their parents?

i am writing a paper about autism for one of my classes but i can't find the percentage of autistic children giving up to adoption every year. i know that it is a high number but i don't know the exact statistic. does anyone out their know? or know i a place i could look

It would most likely be older children due to it not being really noticeable until about 3,,, you may be able to look for your states website listing"special needs: adoptions there are also tons of books out there about autism...  I wouldnt doubt it being a high number though its really stressful and if your a single parent you want think there could be more done then what you can provide.


  2. I can't give you an exact number but i would say its lower than you would think because autism isn't developed until into the childs preschool years

  3. I have no idea where you could check that information, but I would be very surprised to find that it was a significant number.

    I'm curious to know where you got the knowledge that it is a "high number". Placing any child with a disability or special need is extremely difficult, also the diagnosis of ASD is very rarely given before the age of about three. This would make it unusual for a parent or parents to suddenly decide to have the child adopted!

    I am the parent of a son with ASD, I also work with children and families where there are developmental delays/difficulties due to disability/specificneeds.
