Newcastle United’s defender, James Perch believes that curtain has not fallen yet on their Champions League dream, and that the Magpies will go all out in their final game of the season against Everton on Sunday.
The Toon suffered just their third defeat of the season at home at the hands of Manchester City last weekend, which helped the Eastlanders consolidate their firm grip at the top of the table, and created uncertainty for the Tyneside outfit over their Champions
League qualification next season.
In a closely contested race for a top four finish, the Toon are currently a point behind fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur, who in turn trail http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 by a margin of single point.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. However, the Blues will earn an automatic place in the next season’s Champions League if they go on to beat Bayern Munich in the final on
the 19th of May in this season’s competition.
Despite seeing his side go down against City on Sunday, Perch remained upbeat about the Magpies chances of making it into the coveted European competition, but admitted that everything was not in their hands now.
While talking to the club’s official website, he said: “If we get the win and results go our way, we're still in with a chance.”
In the event that Spurs and the Gunners go on to win their respective last games against Fulham and West Brom, a triumph against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 will prove to be inconsequential for Newcastle in their bid to finish in the top four.
Nevertheless, the English International refused to give in, and mentioned that they will go into their final match against Everton with the belief that things will go in their favour.
He said, “We're going to prepare the right way. We'll prepare as if the other teams are going to get beat and hopefully go out and beat Everton.”
Talking about their defeat against City in the penultimate game, the 26-year old acknowledged that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Mancini’s team had simply outplayed them in the final half-an-hour of the game and backed them to claim their maiden Premier League title by beating
QPR.
“They've obviously got unlimited funds to bring players in. We're not that kind of club. I'd like to think we're a more tight-knit group than what they are but fair play to them, they're a great team. They have great individuals, a great manager and they
fully deserve to win the league if they do go on to do that.” He added.
