Perennial’s participation in the Investec Derby depends on his victory in the Casco Cocked Hat Stakes
Perennial will be competing in the Casco Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood on 24th May, 2012, with the hope of securing a spot in the Investec Derby, which will be hosted at Epsom on 2nd June, 2012.
The young runner is owned by Khalid Abdullah, already has an impressive record, with a win and a second place finish in the three starts thus far.
Despite the fact that he failed to deliver in the Blue Square Feilden Stakes at Newmarket in April, 2012, he still has a pretty good chance of making it to the line-up.
The son of Motivator, out of mare Arum Lily, began his career in an impressive manner, landing a massive victory in his maiden.
Paired with rider, Michael Hills, the chestnut runner exhibited his true potential on the track, and used his skill and stamina to beat the competition, which gave him a half-length victory over the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained Encke, whereas race favourite
Rawaafed finished third.
Charlie Hills, who trains the runner, stated to the press that:
"It's an interesting race and it was obviously very disappointing the way he ran at Newmarket. He wasn't the only one of ours to run badly at the time and I hope he'll be able to put a line through that.
"His training has been going well and we're looking forward to getting him back on track. His two-year-old form is working out well as Aidan O'Brien's horse, Astrology, was behind him in the Autumn Stakes and he went out and won the Dee at Chester."
The three-year-old colt will be taking on, Expense Claim, in this race, who is trained by Andrew Balding for owners, Another Bottle Racing 2.
The bay gelding recently delivered a commendable performance at Newbury on 19th May, 2012, where he was paired with jockey, Jimmy Fortune, in the Blue Square London Gold Cup.
The son of Intikhab, out of mare Indolente, raced with a 7-1 chance, and with his brisk pace, defeated, Hajras, by 2 lengths.
Balding slows slight concern over the surface of the track, but he hopes that it will not hinder the runner’s performance in this race.
