Perfect batting combination takes New York Yankees to 10-1 win over Detroit Tigers – MLB Update
The New York Yankees made their way back into the American League Division Series crushing the Detroit Tigers 10-1 in the do-or-die outing of the five-game series at Comerica Park in Detroit and tied the series 2-all.
Being under severe pressure, the Yankees bull-pen was at stake to stay in the 2011 season. The Yankees’ batting showed the same devastating performance as the regular season and punched ten runs, including six in the top of the eighth inning, to express
their domination. The American League Champions exhibited the quality of game, their fans were hoping for back in New York City.
Almost every batter contributed, if not with the bat, then with base runs. Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, Curtis Dickerson, Jorge Posada, Jesus Montero, Russell Martin and Brett Gardner each added at least a single run to pile ten on the board.
Jeter started the streak, touching a double off the Tigers’ young pitcher Rick Porcello in the top of the third inning. Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez, Gardner and Jeter scored singles to elevate the lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning.
Two innings later, the Yankees real swings awakened and their batting squad joined to destroy the Tigers’ reliever Phil Coke and Al Alburquerque. The eighth inning led off by Rodriguez proved a decision maker between the clubs, as the Tigers’ already struggling
batting completely gave up trying to chase the Yankees’ 10-1 lead.
Worth-noting thing is that in the Yankees innings, the score came off the RBIs and base runs. A team known for home-run derbies did not try to make one in the entire inning as the angry camp focused more on stealing bases than touching high hits.
It was the complete combination of the older players and youngsters. Jesus Montero, who made his debut in September, hit and swung like a veteran hitter and touched two vital pitches to grab a run and RBI single. Designated hitter entered only for two at-bats
in the later phases of the outing and repeated a top performance.
Starter Allan James Burnett also played per the expectations of Joe Girardi, spectators and his fans. He gave away only one run and four hits in just over five innings.
The Yankees now have to decide which starter to employ in the exciting finale of the ALDS.
