Which of these 3 integrated GPUs are better? And how do they compare with the dedicated Geforce 8400M GS card?

  1. The 8400 is the best of course, but it's really a question of if you need that card or not. If you like to play games, and edit pictures, they you will need to 8400. For youtube, email, word, and stuff like that, then stick with the 8200M, since you won't need the 8400.

  2. The 8400M GS is the fastest with the HD3200 just below it and then the cheaper but still dedicated 8400M G below that (yes, an integrated chip can outperform a dedicated one, though that's a good integrated chip and a cheap dedicated one) with the Intel GMA4500 very slightly below the 8400M G with the 8200M G at the bottom of the list.

  3. It's quite simple in my opinion: 'If you can, get dedicated.' If you wish to play games and the sort, get the dedicated graphics card. If you are just browsing the internet or typing or using office skills, by all means stick with integrated.

  4. Nothing beats a dedicated video card even for mobile Gpu's, also how any other Gpu stacks up against the 8400m GS depends on which one it is, there are two different memory types with that card, GDDR2 and GDDR3 and then they range from 64 MB to 256 MB dedicated memory.

Also the 8400 GS will give you HDMI output and with Laptop2go forceware 169 drivers you can even over clock the 8400m GS, the GDDR3 on overclocks more and is already clocked higher then it's GDDR2 counter part, usually the GDDR2 8400 GS has a 400Mhz core clock, 800Mhz memory clock and 400Mhz shader clock.

The GDDR3 counter part is usually 600Mhz core, 800-1000Mhz memory and 600Mhz shader.

Any dedicated Gpu will offer better visuals then an on board source, you can even play last generation games very well on the 8400m GS, games like Resident Evil 4, F.E.A.R and others play very good, not to mention DVD playback will look better with a dedicated Gpu.

Most manufacture's offer the 8600m GT which is much better than the 8400m GS, HP also offers the 9600m GT which is even better and has upwards of 512 megabytes dedicated video ram.
