Pakistan chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricketers currently engaged in playing English county, not to consider themselves automatically selected for the national team on the basis of their performance in England.
Speaking to a group of newsmen, Khan, who represented Pakistan as a batsman between 1977 and 1986, said, “County cricket is not our criterion for selection. The performance in England is not going to impress the selectors.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319’s remarks came after he announced the teams for the upcoming domestic Twenty20 tournament, the Faysal Bank Super Eight T20 Cup, which will feature teams from cricket playing cities of Pakistan.
The chief selector nonetheless, admitted that the selectors will be following the performance of Pakistan players in England who are showing good form in the ongoing Friends Life T20 tournament playing for different counties.
He insisted that the selection in the national squad will be based on the player’s performance for the national team and in the domestic circuit.
“It is the performance for the national team and in domestic tournaments that counts,” he insisted.
Meanwhile talking on the upcoming domestic tournament, Khan saw this as a great opportunity for younger players to show their mettle in competitive cricket and impress the selectors.
He pointed out that players showing commendable performance in the tournament will be given a chance to play for the national team.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohsin said, “The outstanding players of the tournament will definitely get a chance in the national team.”
The event will be hosted by Faisalabad and is all set to begin from June 24, 2011.
