Performance of the Australian dollar since the float

I'm doing an economics assignment and need information regarding the performance of the AUD since the float. I already know how it moved over these years but need information about why the dollar moved the way it did (e.g. why was the dollar so low during 2000-2002)

Australian economy is directly related to USA's economy.USA went underway the recession path in 2002 due to all that 9/11 & attack on Afghanistan.Due to massive economic inclination of Australia towards USA (from export to import), it is bound to feel its aftershocks.

Now with USA in recession once again.

Result, Aussies going haywire !!
