Question:

Period After Depo Provera?

I had a little boy on November 9, 2007...(late life baby, I was 42 when I conceived!) He is such a joy to my husband and I but we don't want anymore this late in life. Hubby got a vasectomy in May and I stopped taking my depo provera shot around the same time.

During the depo shot I had regular periods - now that I'm not taking it I haven't had a period since June. Is that normal or could I be starting menopause early?

I did take a pregnancy test just to make sure we didn't conceive before my husband's vasectomy, it is negative.

  1. Now you are less fertile you wont ovulate every month so the periods will start to become a bit more erratic. The average age to start menopause is 47-51, but many women start earlier. Simplest thing to do, is request a blood test checking your hormone levels. Good luck.

  2. Depo can really mess with your hormones. People on it a long time often loose their periods. It can continue to effect you for a while after you stopped taking it. Some say it can effect your fertility levels and mestrual cycle for as long after you stop as you were taking it.

If you are concerned, see a doctor. They can do hormonal tests for menopause.
