Question:

Period - Nursing - C-section?

So I stopped bleeding from the birth at about 5 weeks, it is now 7 weeks and i believe I have started my period. However, I am nursing, I thought that was not supposed to happen? Also, I had a scheduled C-section and I attempted to use a tampon (my doctor gave me the ok) and it is very uncomfortable. Did anyone have discomfort with using tampons and or with s*x who did NOT deliver vaginally?

  1. funny you should ask, I just started my period today after almost 8 months of no period.  I did have a c-section as well and no pain when i just used a tampon.

have you been nursing exclusivly with no bottles and no pacifiers? thats usually why you period starts, if you start using those things. I recently went back to work and had to pump and bottle feed 2 times a week, i think thats what did it for me

  2. well i dont know about the pain with the tampon, but i still got my period when i was nursing, however it was extremely light. i have a friend who got a normal period when she was nursing. she told me that it's because some women make an excess of hormones. your hormones are suppose to go throught the breast milk, but some women make so many that they still ovulate and get periods. hope this helped :-)

  3. Don't believe the whole "can't get your period and can't get pregnant while you're nursing" thing. I speak from experience, both happened to me. When I was nursing my first I got preggers with my second, and with my third I had small, sporatic periods. I've never experienced pain with either tampons or s*x after a C-Section (been through two) so maybe you aren't quite healed all the way.

  4. I believed the nursing hype and that was a mistake.  My period came after 3 months, but I thought it would be gone longer.  I didn't use a tampon after my c section.
